First Game of the Season at Ombersley GC
posted on 15 March 2017
On 14th March 2017 a very depleted group of 5 Players and 1 Visitor made themselves available for the 1st game of the new season at Ombersley Golf Club. This was due to injuries to three players, Keith Evans, Knee, Roger Fennell, Wrist and Ian Fothergill, Lower Back, and others on family duties and 1 of our 2 Founder Members still around, Bob Sweeting, announcing his retirement as a Player. Other members were unfortunately involved in other duties and were unable to attend.
During the AGM, which took place prior to the game, Bill Barber stated he would stand down as Captain subject to George Barrow accepting the Nomination and Martyn Davies accepted the role of Secretary/Treasurer/Organiser. At the same time Ian Fothergill, one of the two remaining Founders, proposed that Bob Sweeting should be elected as Life Honorary President in recognition of all his work over many years as the Secretary/Treasurer Organiser. This was met with acclaim and Bob was duly elected.
The game was played on a beautiful Spring Day and whilst Chris Firminger playing of 4 had the best round the winner of, with 22 points, was Bill Barber playing off 14 now reduced to 13. Well played Bill.
Our Visitor, Ian Taylor came a valiant 3rd on Count back from Rick Abbotts both scoring 20 points.
On completion the usual excellent meal was enjoyed by the players and we look forward to the next game at Bromsgrove on Tuesday 11th April.
All visitors will be made especially welcome.
