WHELKS - New Season & First Game
posted on 21 March 2016
Tuesday 15th March saw the WHELKS turn out for their first game of the 2016 Season at Ombersley which is our Home Base but was not the original Course chosen for this game. Henley however was waterlogged and unable to provide all we required so thanks to some swift work by our Treasurer/Secretary, Bob Sweeting, with only 24 hours’ notice, managed to get us booked in to Ombersley and our grateful thanks to the Club for their flexibility.
Following the AGM, where we elected our new Captain, Bill Barber, and determining the slight increase in Subs and Match Fees, we also welcomed a new Member, Mike Fowler and 3 Visitors giving us a total of 15.
Five Three Ball Groups were then selected and following our new Captain “Driving In” we set off on a dry but very cold day.
The Golf Course, as always was the real Winner but with our Handicap system The Visitors always seem to lead the way and on this occasion Emerson Holder walked away with the Visitors Prize on a countback with Mike Richardson. Well done both of you and we look forward to seeing you playing off your New Handicaps.
Dave Richards once again demonstrated that we still need to control his Handicap because not only was he the Winning WHELK he also won the Prize for Nearest the Pin. Well played Dave.
Following the game we were able to enjoy an excellent meal and everyone left feeling very content with their day.
Our next game will be played at Henley in Arden on Tuesday April 12th. All Visitors are very welcome. Should you wish to join us then please contact the Information Officer or e mail direct firstname.lastname@example.org.
